Chapter Two
Awaking from the sounds of howling and hissing is never a good thing. I stood up quickly, getting dressed in my usual battle gear. Today, I was in Florida's capital. It was incredibly sunny outside, and it made my eyes squint, having just woken up. Florida was a beautiful state, besides the fact that werewolves hide out here because of the sun. Vampires and demons aren't allowed to be out in the sunlight, because creations of Lucifer.
Another sound of growling, hissing, and howling came from outside, taking me back to what I need to do. I finished putting on my leather clothing and grabbed my bag of potions, just in case.
Quietly, I walked into the kitchen of the house I've had rented for so long, I opened the glass door to my backyard, and crept into the shadows. The sounds of angry fighting were closer now...
Suddenly, a vampire and two lycans locked in combat whipped past me. My wings, becoming a second sense to mever since the change, pushed past the skin of my back with a crunch, then unfurled to their glorious span. The rays of Heaven radiated off my wings, the light instantly killing the vampire. The two lycans looked in surprise at the pure, radiant white of my feathered wings.
"Do you wish to fight... Or surrender?" I asked them. My voice came out in powerful waves, sounding like heaven's most beautiful music. One lycan quickly took to his human form, kneeling on his knees to show his surrender. His friend, though, snarled to show his superiority.
"You have a good taste, Lycan, but if your friend doesn't surrender, you both shall share the same fate, death." I said, my voice as elegant and graceful in the air as Heaven's harp.
The human Lycan gave his friend an angry look. The other Lycan ignored it, continuing to snarl at me. Fear began to grow in the human lycan's eyes as I put down my bag of potions.
"Alright, fine," I said, my voice going down to the noise of a piano's lowest note, "You will be killed mercifully. I can't say the same for your friend, though."
The human Lycan's friend snarled angrily, the human lycan bowing his head. The lycan tried to lung foward at me, but I was already across the yard. The lycan ran steadily toward me, but I had already performed a spell. The lycan ran into my invisible field, and it quickly picked him up.
The beast howled in agony as my once invisible field turned an angry, blood red and whipped at him. Silly lycan... How could he even begin to think he would beat me in battle? His friend yelped and began to run to the lycan's rescue. I hend up my hand and he froze in his tracks against his will. I shook my head at the lycan as he watched my field destroy his friend.
"Don't try to save him unless you want to die the same way." I said, my voice booming out to the frozen human. He flinched as my field of blood ripped out the lycan's intestines slowly, making sure he stayed alive enough to feel the horrible, gruesome pain. The lycan cried out until he was in too much pain to do so.
"Will you let me live?" The human Lycan asked in a gruff voice.
"Yes, but you won't speak of this to anyone, understood?" I said with compromise. He nodded his agreement, and I waved him away. "Release and let the Lycan finish his death on his own." I told my magick. It released the Lycan, but hovered in the air.
"Clean up this mess and devour the body. Then come to me." I ordered, grabbing my bag of potions and going inside my rented home. I instantly smelled something odd and called out, "Who's here?"
There was no answer, so I began to look around, holding my bag of potions close. I pulled out a potion that I had created. It's purpose was to conceal me so not even one of my own kind or any other would see me. Slowly, I twisted the cap off and drank. The effects of my potion were instantly in affect, and I felt as light as a feather, like I could walk on air. I put the cap back on my potion to save what was left and put it in my bag. I heard a gasp to my left and was instantly following the sound. Then I heard the breath of another of my kind, and listened carefully. Now I know there's an intruder in my home.
Then I spotted the intruder, walking down the stairwell to the second floor of this large home. It was a man with long brown-black hair, about 6'4" and was burly. He obviously could sense my presence, even though I was invisible to the sight of everything. The man looked toward where I was standing, his nose raised to sniff the air like a hound. He must be smelling the strong stench of my potions.
"Hello?" He said, walking towards me, still following the scent of my potions. He then stopped in front of me, obviously knowing I was there. I wished away my concealement to show that indeed, I was there. If he was here to start trouble, he would have already started it. He must be okay.
"May I ask why you're in my home?" I said, trying to be polite.
"I'm sorry for intruding on your privacy, but I had a feeling you may need help?" He smiled.
"Help?" I spat, "Why would I need help? I'm fine here on my own, thank you."
"I didn't mean to offend you. It's just that your presence is so strong, and I saw what you could do. It's very unique, your gift. You should cherish it well."
"I thought all angels had this same gift?" I asked, a tone of worriness showing in my voice.
"You're obviously still young... How long have you been an angel? A year?" He pondered, trying to guess.
"A bit more than that. Try three years?"
"My apologies then... May I introduce myself?"
"You might as well. You're already in my house, it would be quite useful to know your name."
"My name is Ashes." He said, chuckling at my smart remark.
"I'm Harmony Laverna." I said, holding out my hand.
"Nice to meet you, Harmony. It's great to finally know the presence that has been bothering me for so long." He said, smiling as he shook my hand.
"Come have a seat in the kitchen... Is there anything I can get you?" I asked, my motherly instincts kicking in as always.
"A cup of tea, but that's all. Thank you." He smiled.
"Anything for an unexpected guest that I don't know." I said, smiling. He chuckled again at my humor as I heated up some water and began taking out some things to make tea.
"So, how long have you been in this place?" Ashes asked, curiously looking around the room at my taste in decor as he sat.
"About as long as I've been an angel." I said, sadly remembering all the things I had sacraficed due to becoming one.
"Ah..." He said, becoming quiet as he looked around the room a bit more.
The kitchen walls were painted a beige color, because beige matched just about anything. All of my decor was a bright blue color, including the kitchen table's cover and the counter tops. On the kitchen table I kept a blue flower in a small glass vase as a center piece. The drawers were a light blue like my flower, and so were the cupboards. Everything went together nicely in my kitchen.
The microwave beeped at me, and I quickly opened it up and carried the hot coffee mug of water carefully and placed it on the counter top. I poured in the necessary ingredients to make Ashes' tea, then handed him his cup.
"Thank you." He said, taking a small sip.
"You're welcome." I said, smiling as I leaned against the counter tops and looked around the room. I kept my home fairly neat, which I was glad for. If it was messy I would never find anything.
"You asked me earlier what I meant about other angels not having your same abilities?" Ashes suddenly asked, pulling me out of my random thoughts.
"Uhm, yes. What did you mean by that?" I said, finally looking at him.
"Well, not all angels have your abilities. They aren't able to summon the things you did out there."
"I thought that was normal?" I raised an eyebrow at him.
"Not at all... You're extremely unique, beyond what you understand. Honestly, I came here to try to convince you to come back with me to my home where I take care of others like yourself." He said, looking into my eyes.
I stared into his eyes, shock overwhelming me. What did he mean it wasn't normal for me to summon creatues like the one I had outside? There was to be some mistake. Maybe he's the only one that can't summon them?
"No, I'm not mistaken. I know what you're thinking, but you are special. You should try to realise how important it is that you come with me."
He said, watching my expression carefully.
"I don't know... I'll have to think about it." I said, looking away from him.
"Think carefully." He said.
I nodded, then walked upstairs to think. How could something like this be happening to me again?
