Chapter Four
All eyes were on me now. It's a good thing I didn't get extremely nervous under pressure. That would totally be working against me right now. At the moment, I was in front of all the angels in the building Ashes and Igor and, now, I lived in. Ashes wanted me to show everyone what I could do, considering the fact that I was new and such. I didn't want to, though, because most of my spells were harmful or had bad after affects. There were only a couple that I knew were completely safe and couldn't possible harm anyone in any way. Ashes had already introduced everybody to me, so now I could remember quite a few of their names off the top of my head. By tomorrow though, I'll probably have forgotten them all.
"Go on, Harmony. Show everybody what you can do." Ashes said, urging me on.
"I can't." I said, shaking my head,"I don't want anyone to get hurt."
"You aren't going to hurt anyone. Just use one of your spells."
"Alright.." I said uncertainly,"Just nobody freak out, because everything will still be here, okay?"
The crowd of angels in front of me nodded. I guess that meant I could do my concealment spell. I pulled a vial of blue liquid out of my bag of potions and held the vial up into the air.
"Do as I say and make this place disappear to all eyes except mine. When I say show yourself once more, do that." I whispered under my breath, then smashed the vial as hard as I could against the wooden stage in front of me.
Everything disappeared to everyone everywhere, except for me. I could still see the tall ceiling and the large, polished dark wood stage in front of me. The stairs leading down to the floor in front of the stage were still there. Along with that were the seats in front of the stage where all of the angels sat. The seats looked to be made of leather with polished, dark wooden arm rests. The floor beneath the stage was covered in a dark blue carpet. The walls were painted a dark blue to match the carpet, and the doors to come in and out were polished dark wood. All of this was still there, except nobody could see it except for me.
"What the..?" I heard quite a few angels whisper. They must have felt blind, because they could still feel everything there, but they couldn't see it. Now all that could be seen to them was a long road of cobblestone.
"Why can't I see where everything is?" asked an angel from the crowd. I think her name was Oak.
"It's a concealment spell." I said, smiling.
"A spell?" said another angel. This one was named Infinity, that much I could remember.
"You know, a spell.. Like what you do with magick?" I looked around at everyone. They seemed to be totally clueless as to what was going on. I did warn them though, hadn't I?
"Yeah, I get what you mean." She said,"But I've never heard of an angel being able to use magick."
"Well, I guess there's a first time for everything." I said with a small smile.
"Alright now." Ashes said,"Let us see where everything is again?"
I nodded at Ashes, then focused very carefully. Since I was placing two of the same spell, I needed to picture exactly which one I needed to unconceal.
I pictured in my head the entire mansion, then whispered,"Show yourself to everyone once more."
Everything came back as soon as I finished saying the last word to my spell. I sighed in relief as everything showed up to everyone else again.
"That's pretty cool, Harmony." Igor said, smiling at me.
"I guess so." I said, smiling back.
"Doesn't that make you tired at all?" asked Glass.
"It does, but it's fine." I looked to Ashes,"Although, I could go for something to eat now."
"Alright, that sounds good to me." He said, chuckling a little,"Everyone, head on out to the cafeteria."
"You guys have a cafeteria?" I asked.
"Yeah, because most of us change at such a young age that we still haven't learned all that we need. That's why we have classes here and such. I was going to ask if you wanted to attend but you seem like you learned enough being on your own." Ashes said, smiling at me.
"I guess so." I said.
He began walking off the stage, so I followed since I had no idea where the cafeteria. I hadn't even gone up to the fourth floor yet, so how should I have memorized the whole third floor?
"So what would you like?" He said, opening a pair of large doors to reveal a very big cafeteria. The ceiling was pretty high and the room was probably able to fit a whole high school full of kids. The floor was tiled and polished nicely. The walls were made of bricks and there were designs painted on the walls. For each wall, a flower was painted to represent the first, second, fourth, and fifth floors. The tables were round and were able to fit six people. To the front of the room there was a large display of food on a long, wooden table. Behind it was a door to another room, probably the kitchen. In the back of the room there were two glass doors. They looked like they lead to a pair of stairs that lead outside.
"I'm not sure.. What do you guys have?" I asked, staring in awe at the large room.
"We have shrimp, lasagna, chicken, steak, and salad today. You'll probably realize after a couple days that we always have salad, two meats, one seafood, and one pasta out every day. It's so that our food fits everybodys diet." Ashes said, smiling.
"That's actually kinda cool." I said,"It's almost like high school all over again."
"I guess." Ashes said, smiling. He grabbed a plate from the long table and started piling up steak, salad, and shrimp. To the right of the table there was another small table that held water, juice, and milk.
"Somebody is hungry." I said, laughing a little. I grabbed a plate for myself and put on a slice of lasagna and half a steak.
"I guess I can say the same about you." Ashes teased, smirking at his own remark.
"Good one, but at least I won't gain about fifty pounds from eating too much." I said, laughing as I grabbed a napkin. Inside the napkin was a spoon, fork, and a sharp knife.
"What makes you think I'll gain fifty pounds?" Ashes asked as he grabbed a cup and began pouring himself some juice.
"You don't seem like you work out or anything." I said, even though it was obvious that he was very much in shape.
"Yeah right, Harmony. That's like saying the sky isn't blue." He said.
"Well it isn't all the time. It turns black at night." I said with a laugh. I grabbed a cup and poured myself some water.
"You know what I meant." Ashes smirked. He sat down, placed his food and drink on the table, and then motioned for me to sit.
I sat beside him and looked around the room for Igor. He told me he'd sit with Ashes and I when we ran into him on our way to the auditorium.
"Looking for Igor?" Ashes said, then pointed towards the large wooden door. I looked in that direction, and saw him walking in. He obviously spotted me, because he smiled and waved. I waved back with a smile.
"So who else sits here?" I asked, grabbing my fork and taking a bite of my lasagna.
"Cobra, Phoenix, and North." Ashes said with a mouthful of salad.
"Don't talk with your mouth full." I said, laughing as I took another bite of lasagna.
"Yes, mother." Ashes teased, giving me his cute half smile.
"I'm not your mom." I laughed.
"I hope not." He said, making me laugh again,"But don't act like my mom if you aren't."
"I'm not acting like your mom. It's gross to talk with your mouth full." I said, working on my steak now.
"What did I miss?" Igor said, plopping himself down right beside me.
"Harmony trying to be my mother." Ashes said, smirking at me.
"I was not! Isn't it gross to talk with your mouth full?" I said, turning to look at Igor.
"It's whatever." He said, taking a bite of his steak.
"Gosh, you're such guys." I said.
"What did you want us to act like? Little girls?" Ashes said.
"No," I said, laughing,"Well.. Maybe, if it made you have better manners."
"I'm not up for being a little girl." Igor said with a laugh.
"Oh shush, I didn't ask for your opinion." I smiled at him.
"Harsh." Ashes said.
"You hush too." I said.
"You're rude." Ashes teased.
"At least I wasn't ea-" I said, then gasped.
My eyes glowed a strange orange-yellow as an image of my home came into my mind. I could see it as if it was right in front of me. Something that was really tall and muscular was on fire. It held up a large sword of fire as if it were going to burn down my home. Whatever it was, it had broken through my spell. My magick couldn't hold it back or damage it enough to keep it away from the home. I flinched as the thing cut through my magick. My magick is like a part of me, so when it gets hurt, I can feel it.
"Harmony?" Ashes asked, his face going pale.
"What's wrong?" Cobra asked, sitting down with a worried face.
"What happened to her eyes?" I heard Igor ask from beside me.
"I don't know what's happening to her." Ashes said, a worried tone in his voice.
"My home.." I whispered, my voice sounding like it was coming from the other side of a tunnel.
"What?" Igor asked, leaning closer to me to hear me.
"My home!" I said, jumping up and starting to run to the door.
"What happened to it?!" Ashes said, getting up and running to catch up to me.
I shook my head sadly, running down the stairs to the second floor. Ashes was having a hard time keeping up with me. I raced into my room and began looking through my bag of potions.
"Shit shit shit.." I said angrily, trying to find my teleportation potion. I finally found it in the mess, pulled it out, and slung my bag over my shoulder.
"Hold onto my hand." I said.
"I thought you'd never say that." Ashes said, grabbing my free hand.
"This is no time to joke around." I said, quickly pulling off the cover to the vial. I drank all of it as quickly as I could and pictured my home in my head.
Suddenly, the floor disappeared underneath Ashes and I, and we were a few feet away from my home. I let go of Ashes' hand and began to whisper under my breath.
"Holy shit, what happened?!" Ashes yelled, staring at the home. Then he saw the huge thing on fire and he paled.
I held up my hands as they started to glow an orange yellow like my eyes. Ashes was watching me closely to see what I was doing. A very strong power from my core began to rise, and my wings sprouted from my back with barely any pain. The center of the power continued to rise and grow until I could feel it coursing through my veins. It grew stronger and stronger as I focused the power into my hands. A large ball was suddenly forming in between my hands and I squeezed my eyes shut to help me focus more. The ball grew more, and more still inside my hands until it formed itself into a sword. The sword glowed so brightly that it was like looking up at the sun with your eyes closed, you could still see how bright it was.
Suddenly, I could sense everything around me. Underneath my feet, I felt worms crawling around. Above me, I could hear birds flying. In front of me, I felt whatever that thing was burning down my home. I thought as hard as I could about it raining hard enough to stop the fire. Finally, it rained hard on Ashes and I, and especially hard on my home and the thing that was on fire.
"Did you do this?" Ashes asked in awe, pointing at the sky and the rain.
"Yes, and look at the house now." I said, smiling. The fire was going out and it looked like the house was going to be okay.
The thing's fire surprisingly didn't go out or dim down at all. It seemed to blaze brighter than before. What the hell was that thing..?
"I think I know what it is." Ashes said in a worried tone,"It's a demon. A creation of Lucifer."
"Meaning the fire isn't going to go out on him?" I asked quietly.
"Sadly, no." Ashes said.
"Well then it looks like I'm going to have to kill it." I said, getting into position and holding my sword.
"Harmony, wait!" Ashes said, trying to grab my arm.
I had already charged for the demon. It quickly turned around right before I sliced off its ankle with my sword. The ground shook underneath it, and it kicked me hard. My sword went flying out of my hands and I fell about three feet away from the demon. My body was on fire and I groaned in pain. It felt like my whole body was broken.
"Harmony! Are you okay?!" Ashes yelled, running to me.
"Just help me up." I said, glad that it was raining.
Ashes held out his hand and I grabbed it. He pulled me up gently and I summoned my sword in my hands again. This time I was going to try to take the demon on from my sky. I flexed my wings, then jumped into the air and began to flap my wings. They propelled me high into the sky until I was at the face of the demon. Sadly, I couldn't see its face very well because of the fire.
The demon swatted at me, but my wings drifed me up into the air fast enough for me to dodge it. I slashed at its face with my sword and it cut through what was probably the nose. The demon hissed and swatted at me again, this time striking me good. I landed hard on my back and I heard a loud crack come from my wings. A strong pain overcame me and it was suddenly hard to keep my eyes open. I could faintly hear Ashes trying to talk to me, but everything started slipping away. Finally, my eyes closed and everything went black.
